Astronomers always tell us that earth is such a special planet and I’ve always wondered whether other species out there are saying the same things about their own planet. In fact, recent discoveries are starting to reveal that there are loads of earth-like planets out there in our Universe.
Dr Lars Buchhave and his team at the University of Copenhagen in Demark have recently studied the make-up of host stars of 226 planets to discover that each planet was relatively small with a size no more than 4 times that of the earth. Such earth-like worlds appear to form much easier than was expected by astronomer in the past years, rotating around a diverse range of stars. Dr Buchhave points out that if you look up at the sky and pick a star, there is a much greater chance that the star has a small planet rather than none at all. Over all, it leaves a much greater chance for life as we know it to evolve elsewhere in the Universe…
